Storage beds differ from traditional beds by having in-built storage that may be hidden or on show. This includes beds with storage underneath and bookcase beds with shelves in the bedhead for displaying books and other items.

Under-bed storage can be in the form of built-in drawers, as with our storage beds, hidden compartments or a combination of both. Some also have a mechanism to lift the mattress base, with a large storage area concealed underneath.

When buying a storage bed, you’ll need to consider your budget, floorspace and storage needs – as well as your décor.

Ottoman and gas lift storage beds provide the most storage but, as a downside, come with the highest price tag. They are also heavier to move and more difficult to assemble than a bed with drawers, and a heavier mattress can make it harder to access the storage area.

A storage bed with drawers is a more affordable option and may be better suited to your needs. However, it’s important to ensure your room has enough clearance for your drawers when open.
