Sleepwear is clothing that is designed to be slept in. The best sleepwear prioritises sleep comfort with soft, breathable fabrics and fits that allow you to move freely throughout the night.

The best material for sleepwear depends on the season and your personal preference. Softness is desirable year-round, with lightweight fabrics like TENCEL™ Modal, silk, cotton and bamboo ideal for warmer months.

In winter, flannelette pjs are popular for their cosy warmth.

Sleepwear is designed specifically for sleeping, whereas loungewear is casual clothing, like loose pants and hoodies, for relaxing at home (or maybe a sneaky trip to the corner store).

Both sleepwear and loungewear prioritise comfort. However, sleepwear is intended to maximise sleep comfort specifically with features like soft, breathable and temperature-regulating fabrics and unrestrictive fits.

There’s no hard and fast rule about how many pairs of pyjamas you should have. This will depend on your climate, how much you sweat and how often you do the laundry.

For many people, four pairs of pjs is a good starting point. Two sets each for spring-summer and autumn-winter ensures you always have one seasonally appropriate set under the pillow while the other is in the hamper or wash.

Changing your pyjamas every 3 or 4 days is generally recommended as – like sheets – they accumulate dead skin cells and grime. You may be able to stretch this to 5 nights if you shower before bed.

However, if you live somewhere hot and humid, sweat heavily overnight, apply bodycare products before bed or have oily skin, you may need to change them more regularly.
