Safe sleeping and your Ecosa Cot Mattress

Red Nose is Australia’s leading organisation for infant sleep safety and evidence-based advice to help parents reduce the risk of sudden infant death.

Red Nose recommends six key steps for babies aged 0-12 months to help reduce the risk of sudden infant death:

Always place baby on their back to sleep, (with their feet at the bottom of the cot)

Additional safety advice
from Red Nose:

tick
A firm, flat and correctly fitted mattress helps keep your baby safe while sleeping.

Set up your cot and mattress using the latest safety advice from Red Nose – a safe cot is one that meets the mandatory Australian standard (AS/NZS 2172:2003), has a firm flat mattress, and safe bedding.
Use lightweight bedding made from natural fibres such as cotton.
A safe infant sleeping bag with baby’s arms out, well fitted around the neck and chest and with no hood, OR lightweight blanket, firmly tucked in and pulled up only to baby’s chest height.
Always remove the packaging and dust cover before using the mattress.
cross
Never place additional layers or folded blankets on top of the mattress – this makes the surface too soft and increases the risk of baby overheating or suffocating.
Never tilt or elevate your Ecosa Cot Mattress and always use it in a cot of the correct size and shape – a correct fitting mattress has no greater than 20mm of space between the cot sides or ends when centered.

If using a mattress protector, it should be thin and fit snugly to the mattress, but not so tightly that it curves or distorts the shape of the mattress. Note: a mattress protector will reduce the breathability of the Ecosa Cot Mattress.
Never place additional items in the cot such as bumpers, pillows, toys, lambswool or bulky bedding – this significantly increases the risk of sudden infant death.
