Changing Habits With The New Season

How is it March already? February turned into March and that’s not the only transformation we’ll see in the coming days and months. Autumn season is coming (or already here if you’re in Melbourne like us)  and with it are changing leaves and temperature. Hues of orange and green brighten up the crisp days.

Changing seasons are not limited to the calendar, and maybe it’s time to change the season in your own life? As with your annual New Year’s Resolutions, this might be the perfect time to focus on things like wellness and self-care, especially if you’ve dropped the ball on those resolutions.

They say it takes 21 days to form a habit. What better time to start than right now?

With that in mind, let’s talk about things you can work on to align with the new season.

Start Eating with the Seasons

December and January are months where our social calendars are full and our days are spent eating good food and enjoying a few rounds of drinks.

However, with the new season, it might be time to go back to focusing on your wellbeing. Taking care of your health, especially with the coming chill, should be a priority.

What better time to turn a new leaf than autumn. This is a sign for you to start taking better care of your health, particularly your diet and food intake.

Prioritising our immune system is also important. Eating seasonal fruits like apples, grapes, and oranges are full of antioxidants and nutrients, plus they are extra fresh and delicious when in season.

You can also extend healthy eating to veggies like sweet potatoes to strengthen your body with complex carbohydrates, which are essential for energy levels.

How about Some Skin Care

The changing temperature won’t only make you feel chilly, but can also affect your skin.

Skin care is important throughout the whole year, but we need to pay particular attention when the weather changes. Cold weather is associated with lower humidity levels that take away moisture necessary to keep our faces glowing and healthy.

Having a specific skin care routine is important. A simple sunscreen won’t do when you have nippy winds to worry about. This is a good time to start one if you haven’t already. Think about adding moisture through hydrating serums and night creams, and still keep using your sunscreen, which you need all year long.

Get Your Limbs and Mind Moving

Touching on the topic of health, autumn is a good time to start an exercise routine or if you have one, making it indoors.

If you haven’t already, adopting an exercise routine you can adhere to regularly is a good start. A good sweat session not only limbers you up, but also strengthens your immune system and general health in the process.

Exercising outside is not always a good idea at this time though, with the early mornings dark and cold. Try taking it indoors and incorporating different kinds of movement as part of your routine. This also protects you from colds brought by lowering temperatures.

Creating healthy habits aren’t limited to some jogging or sit-ups. Our mental health should also be a concern especially this fall.

Spending more time enjoying the outdoors and all the colours and smell of autumn helps your mental health. Spend less time worrying about notifications on your social media and enjoy being present and out in nature.

Journaling also helps in getting your thoughts and feelings in order. By writing down what makes you tick, you’ll have a better understanding of yourself and what to do with your life moving forward.

Upgrade Your Bedding for Colder Nights

With the change in temperature comes chillier weather. Gone are warm sunny days, replaced with colder winds. That means your lightweight doona  needs to go to the closet once more.

Sleeping with lighter bedding the following nights might leave you cold and shivering. Take the time to swap them with something warming and sleep inducing like the Ecosa Silk Quilts

Silk quilts are offered in different grams per square meter or GSM. Ecosa’s Mid-Season 550 GSM quilts are perfect for this autumn season, able to give you comfort and cozy temperatures. This means you can get a good night’s sleep all throughout fall and beyond. So if you’re currently using the Ecosa Summer Quilt, time to switch over to Mid-Season.

If you’ve only got one set of bed sheets, maybe it’s time to purchase a second set. This will make washing days a breeze, especially if you don’t have a dryer. Simply change over into the new sheets while the old ones are in the wash, as the cooler days might mean it takes longer to dry, or you’re waiting for one of those rare sunny days. (Psst, Ecosa Bamboo Bed Sheets are great for all seasons!)

Spring Cleaning in Autumn?

People love to shop. Sales and great deals pop up in both physical and online stores and it’s hard not to splurge on clothes, new tech, or even furniture. Over the years, you’d manage to collect various things, some you won’t even remember how it got there.

Falling leaves aren’t the only thing you’d be seeing all over the place. We won’t fault you for failing to keep up with your chores. Work or a hectic schedule does that for everyone.

Since you might get free time this fall, how about hunting some dust bunnies around the house? This coming autumn is a good time to sweep around and in the house, especially in all the nooks and crannies of your home.

If you’ve got the time and drive, some home improvement like retouching chipped paint jobs work too. Your home needs some TLC too, not just you.

Speaking of chores, you can also update and change your wardrobe. Time to pop all your summer clothes in storage or the back of your wardrobe, and pull out jumpers, jeans and jackets to the front.

Find a New Hobby or Passion

Autumn isn’t only a bridge to the winter months. March to May in Australia is more than falling leaves. We’d be seeing more festivals and public holidays, which means more time to enjoy with loved ones and friends.

That amount of free time you’re bound to enjoy also means more opportunity to find a new hobby if you haven’t found one yet.

It’s good to focus on work when you have to but relaxing after a long day’s work is necessary to maintain work-life balance. A hobby or something you want to try out is a good way to let off steam from the office.

Who knows, this might lead to exciting ventures in the future (side hustle maybe?) You’ll never know if you won’t try!

Seasonal Habits?

With autumn well and truly upon us, the change in our surroundings is also a perfect time to reinvent and make a change for ourselves. Self-improvement and some tweaks may lead to a better you down the road.

This autumn is as good as any to take the leap towards building great habits that’ll help you in the workplace and even with your relationships with others. It might also lead you to understand and love yourself more. Who doesn’t want more of that?
